Gift Guide: Wishlist

Are all pregnant women like this? This has been the winter of home so far, I don’t want to leave the house but just sit in my living room in my cozies and knit. My Christmas wishlist is pretty reflective of that this year, clockwise from top left:

DC Homesick Candle, I am not homesick for Washington I love a bit of DC kitsch.

Schnauzer Salt and Pepper Shakers from Quail, because everything is better with a schnauz.

One Hundred Stars Robe because I heard a rumor this is where Nigella gets her robes and because I feel like most of the spring of 2019 will be spent in a robe, with a squishy little person, at home.

Handmade Planter, because the number of plants have exploded in our house in the past year and they all need a nice place to live.

Nina Simone on Vinyl, because since we got our record player I’ve re-embraced listening to albums all the way through and no one is as good as Nina. No one.

Initial Necklace from Kate Szabone, because she made my engagement ring and 8 years later I still love almost everything she does, especially these gorgeous initial pendents, maybe an H?

Lotta’s from Sweden, because they are gorgeous, look comfortable and go with everything.

Cloud Earrings, because I can’t wear any normal clothes and am living in a capsule wardrobe of cheap black maternity clothes so I’m leaning into huge, fun earrings, glittery shoes and gorgeous statement accessories. These are just the thing.

Everything from Suite One Studio Pottery is insanely gorgeous. This blue ring dish is one of my faves, perfect for beside my bed.

Gift Guide: Christmas Card

November 14, 2015 Hannah McIntosh Burke

Christmas cards, as I've said before, are my most favourite things.  Dave and I sent out so many of them and sitting in front of Christmas in Connecticut (BEST MOVIE EVER) with massive cups of tea while I write cards to all our friends is the most Christmasy thing in the world.

We haven't finalized our pick for this year but here are some of my favourites:

Top row from left: Custom Family Holiday Cards, Santa Christmas Card, Return Address Stamp
Middle row : Tis the Season Card, Pine Branches Holiday Cards, Scottish Terrier Card
Bottom row: Letterpress Pinecone Card, Tis the Season Illustrated Card, Baby It's Cold Outside Card

Almonds and Bears

With Thanksgiving on Thursday and the temperature dropping, it's beginning to feel well and truly wintry in DC.  I spent much of the weekend cuddled up on the couch with old episodes of Martha Stewart on Hulu and the schnauzer on my feet.  I made a few new animals and listed them.  My favourite is Mary Bear, named after one of my best friends--I wish I could make myself a yellow coat like that.  Have a look at the new animals in the shop.

In preparation for travel to be with family on Wednesday I spent the weekend making almond crackers.  They are gluten free and with some goat cheese and tomato jam they are unreasonably delicious.  I'm trying to consume less flour but there is something so festive and nice about the crunch of crackers with cheese and, with a bit of rosemary and salt, these are just the thing.

Almond Flour Rosemary Crackers

1 3/4 cups almond flour
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh rosemary
1 tablespoon oil
1 egg

* Combine almond flour, salt and rosemary in a large bowl.
* Whisk together oil and egg in a medium bowl.
* Stir wet ingredients into almond flour mixture until thoroughly combined.
* Roll the dough into a ball and press/roll between two sheets of parchment/greaseproof paper to 1/8" thickness.

* Remove top piece of paper.
* Transfer bottom piece with rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet.
* Cut dough into 2" squares with a knife or pizza cutter.

* Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden.
* Let crackers cool on baking sheet for 30 minutes before eating.  They keep really well in an air tight container.
